South Dakotans Seek Vote on Abortion Ban

A group of South Dakota citizens submitted more than twice the number of signatures needed to place an initiative on the November ballot on that state's ban on abortion.

The Legislature passed a bill, which was signed by the Republican governor, that outlawed all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest unless the woman's life is in danger.

Supporters of the law admittedly were seeking a court ruling on Roe v. Wade in light of Bush packing the Supreme Court with avowed anti-abortion justices who want to control all aspects of a woman's life.
